Manchester City beat Newcastle United and Haaland close

Manchester City regained the top spot in the Premier League with a 5-0 thrashing of Newcastle United, leaving the defending champions three points clear of Liverpool at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday. Pep Guardiola has said everyone in the country supports Liverpool after his Manchester City side beat Newcastle 5-0 to extend their Premier League lead to three points. Manchester City took advantage of Liverpool’s stumbling block in the race for the Premier League title as Manchester City took another step toward retaining the crown.

With the win, Manchester City cemented Manchester City’s position at the top of the points table and firmly in the lead, with Liverpool now three points behind the reigning Premier League winners in the league table, and City’s winning style also affected the goal difference to the leaders. Manchester City beat Newcastle 5-0; three points are clear of closest rivals, Liverpool.  Raheem Sterling scored one goal in each half as Manchester City beat Newcastle, three points clear of league rivals Liverpool with three games to go. The Manchester City manager spoke after City’s 5-0 win over Newcastle United, with goals from Raheem Sterling (2), Aymeric Laporte, Rodri and Phil Foden leading the champions three points ahead of Liverpool,

Goals from Raheem Sterling and Aymeric Laporte in the first half allowed Manchester City to calm pre-match nerves relatively early and take advantage of Liverpool’s mistake against Tottenham. Jurgen Klopps’ team continued to pressure Premier League title rivals Manchester City, climbing to the top on goal difference, one more than City’s. Still, Pep Guardiolas’ side will reclaim the top spot after winning at Etihad on Sunday.

Erling Haaland looks set to join Manchester City this week after clearing a medical and the Premier League winners informing Borussia Dortmund that the 21-year-release old’s clause will now be activated. The sum is thought to be far lower than the frequently quoted €75 million (£64 million). The German team is set to confirm the contract soon after Haaland notified them of his desire to depart after two and a half years. Personal terms have already been agreed upon between the player and City. Haaland will be paid a pay package of roughly £350,000 per week, plus significant incentives, and is expected to sign a five-year deal.

The agreement concludes Pep Guardiola’s hunt for a long-term replacement for Sergio Agüero, Manchester City’s club-record goalscorer. Guardiola started looking for a successor for the Argentine after he left for Barcelona last summer. The No. 1 target at the moment was Tottenham’s Harry Kane, but City was locked out of any potential move by the north London club’s chairman, Daniel Levy, who valued Kane at around £150 million.
