EPL’s elites between the sticks

Manchester City has kept the most clean sheets in the English Premier League this season when the first half of the games are completed. They increased their lead without dropping a single point. But in the recent match against Southampton, they dropped two points. But still City’s lead at the top of the Premier League table with 9 points. City’s defence has been solid in recent years in the Premier League, and this season, they are keeping the consistency. Their Brazilian goalkeeper Ederson is doing an excellent job between the sticks.

Let’s take a look at the top ten goalkeepers who have the most clean sheets:

  • Ederson – 12
  • Aaron Ramsdale – 10
  • Alisson – 10
  • Hugo Lloris – 8
  • Edouard Mendy – 8
  • Jose Sa – 8
  • Emiliano Martinez – 6
  • Robert Sanchez – 6
  • Alex McCarthy – 5
  • Vicente Guaita – 5

Players with the most saves:

  • David de Gea – 84
  • Illan Meslier – 71
  • Kasper Schmeichel – 70
  • Lukasz Fabianski – 70
  • Jose Sa – 68
  • Tim Krul – 65
  • Robert Sanchez – 60
  • Jordan Pickford – 57
  • Aaron Ramsdale – 56
  • Hugo Lloris – 56

Manchester City’s Ederson has kept 12 clean sheets from 22 appearances this season. He has conceded only 14 goals and has not made any errors that led to a goal.

One of the main reasons for Arsenal’s improvement in this season is the performance of their goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale. He has been the flying gunner for Arsenal. Aaron Ramsdale’s transfer to Arsenal from Sheffield United this season raised eyebrows, as he was signed for 30 million pounds. Although he has endured back-to-back relegations with Sheffield United and Bournemouth, he has found his place in the Premier League at Arsenal.

Edouard Mendy has proven to be a superb addition for Chelsea since he joined the Blues in 2020. He has kept eight clean sheets for the team and always comes up with a decent save whenever needed. He can cope with the pressure, and when he left for the Africa Cup of Nations with Senegal, Chelsea missed him at some crucial moments.

Allison Becker has improved a lot for Liverpool this season when we compare his performance of last season. With his vital saves and the return of Virgil van Dijk, the Reds have improved a lot defensively. Becker’s 2018-19 campaign was one of his greatest ever. He won the Champions League with Liverpool and Copa America with Brazil. He also won the Yashin Trophy and was named the goalkeeper of the season in the Champions League. The Brazilian also won the Premier League and Copa America Golden Glove Award that year.

A special appreciation should be given to Brighton’s Robert Sanchez. At the beginning of this season, his crucial saves kept the team in the top four. But then the team’s performance dropped. But still, he made sure that the team was strong in defence. Sanchez is aggressive during set-pieces and commands the box well.
