The Premier League could have a new Ronaldo arriving in the near future.
Unfortunately for some, it will not be Cristiano Ronaldo, though.
According to a report to have recently emerged from the Daily Mail, Ronaldo Camara is the man in question as the potential new Ronaldo who might arrive in English football.
The attacking midfielder is thought to have made an impression on a number of the Premier League teams who have scouted him in the past and have been put on high alert after his current situation became a little clearer.
The 18-year-old, having only just turned that young age, recently rejected a new contract offer from Benfica, which has sent shockwaves through the rest of Europe and with bettors using apuestas24.mx.
The teenager is highly-rated but has refused to sign a new deal with Benfica as he has fallen out with the club.
As a result, Benfica appear to have taken a ‘no-nonsense’ approach and have dropped him from their B team squad list; perhaps highlighting the type of punishment they may dish out to any other youngsters who decide their future is elsewhere.
Facing the prospect of being able to snap him up for a minimal fee that will cover Benfica’s training compensation, a host of Premier League clubs are now believed to be monitoring his situation closely.
Camara has attracted the likes of Manchester City and Manchester United in the past, although Barcelona have also been credited with interest not too long ago.
The attacking midfielder certainly has a lot of talent, as he was capped at the U17 level for Portugal at just 14 years old, and has been integral for his club at a developmental level.
He helped Benfica finish the 2019/20 UEFA Youth League as runners-up by scoring one goal in five impressive performances following a move from Sporting Lisbon.
There has been some concern regarding his current contract status, with some reporting that a deal he signed back in 2019 means he is locked in until 2022, however there have been conflicting reports to suggest that this is simply not the case.
Regardless, it looks as though Ronaldo Camara will be on the move soon and if the Premier League is his next destination, it will be interesting to see who takes a punt on him.
