Journalist: “Lampard took over Chelsea only because of the club’s transfer ban”

The Chelsea bosses initially wanted to invite another specialist.

Journalist David Ornstein shared information about the circumstances behind Frank Lampard becoming the head coach of Chelsea. Lampard reportedly only got a job at the West London club because Chelsea were banned from transfers in 2019.

Ornstein notes that under different circumstances, Chelsea executives would have called in a coach with a more serious resume. However, due to the transfer ban, the blue bosses were extremely limited in finding a replacement for Maurizio Sarri.

Note that Chelsea are miserably failing this season in the Premier League. Recently, rumors have circulated in the British press about Lampard’s impending resignation.
