“I always try [to return to Argentina]. I know exactly what the fans [of Independiente] desire, but I have a contract with City, and I try to concentrate on both of these years I have left,” Aguero said.

“Then I will see what I will do but clearly, that the Rojo [Independiente] is my priority.”

Aguero scored 23 goals in 30 games earlier this year was suspended on account of the coronavirus pandemic.

The Argentina international has impressed under Guardiola lately with City club legend Francis Lee lately announcing he’s become a complete striker in the Etihad.

“When Pep Guardiola first arrived at the club, he was an out and out goalscorer but now he’s an out and out player who scores goals.

“Sergio has everything. He’s a really good finisher, he’s so clinical, he’s the ideal size and build for a striker and he’s got pace. I thought he was a bit on the wane when Pep came but the manager shook him up and he’s got him acting like a world class striker he is.

“And if you consider the way he scores his goals they aren’t all simple. He can also score exceptional goals and he is an awesome talent. No, since he could have got all of my goals!

“Seriously, I’d have absolutely relished playing with him. I discovered that if I had been playing with fantastic players it had been made really easy for me as it had been with amazing players such as Colin [Bell], Neil [Young] and Mike [Summerbee]. Sergio is something special also.”
