3 best fantasy football captains for GW21

The busy Premier League schedule over Christmas and New Year concludes this week as nine matches take place on New Year’s Day, concluding with Liverpool versus Sheffield United the following day. There will be a break next weekend as the FA Cup third round takes place.

Prior to that, the first EPL game of 2020 will be Brighton & Hove Albion versus Chelsea, before Manchester City host Everton later in the day, with Arsenal against Manchester United being the final game on Wednesday.

Squad rotation is bound to play a part in this week’s games so some luck will certainly be involved, but these should be solid choices to choose between as your fantasy football captain for gameweek 21:

Jamie Vardy

The Leicester City striker was rested for their final game of 2019 so should be fresh for the club’s visit to Newcastle United on New Year’s Day. Jamie Vardy is the Premier League’s top scorer and has been on fire in recent months. Against a weak Newcastle side, Brendan Rodgers’ side should pick up three points and in doing so you’d expect the striker to get among the goals.

Ayoze Perez is coming up against the club he left over the summer, and whilst the hosts have been strong at St James’ Park this season they were beaten at home by Everton a couple of days ago.

Harry Kane

Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham Hotspur will be looking to put pressure on Chelsea as they look to get into the top four and Champions League places between now and the end of the season. Spurs travel to Southampton tomorrow in a game they are widely-expected to win.

Whilst Dele Alli has been the star man under the new manager over the past six weeks, Harry Kane has also been firing in the goals. The striker should have some success against a Southampton side without a clean sheet at St Mary’s this season.

Todd Cantwell

The teenage Norwich City winger already has five Premier League goals this season and was rested for all but the final four minutes of their draw at home to Tottenham last time out. Therefore Todd Cantwell should be back in Daniel Farke’s starting lineup for the visit of Crystal Palace.

This is a game I can see the Canaries picking up three points and if they do you can expect either Cantwell or Teemu Pukki to be among the goals. The Englishman has been in the better form of the two of late.
