It is tradition in England for Premier league action to take place on Boxing Day, and the 2019-20 season is no different.
There are four different kickoff times on Thursday meaning fans can sit in front of the TV, or Amazon Prime, for hours on end watching all of the action. There’s even a game between Wolverhampton Wanderers and Manchester City to conclude the fantasy football gameweek on Friday night.
Be careful of squads rotating their players so soon after the weekend’s action and with games to come this weekend too. With that in mind, here are my choices for your best fantasy football captains in gameweek 19:
Tottenham Hotspur kickoff the action on St Stephen’s Day at home to Brighton & Hove Albion. Jose Mourinho’s side have been scoring for fun since he took charge and the lack of options in rotation for his opposite number should give the Portuguese coach an extra advantage heading into this match, as if he needed it.
Dele Alli has been the main man under Mourinho so far and would be a solid choice to make captain this week too, but I’m favouring Harry Kane to be the main man as he leads the line against the Seagulls.
Mikel Arteta takes charge of his first Arsenal game on Boxing Day as the Gunners travel to struggling Bournemouth. The hosts have lost five of their last seven Premier League games, conceding 12 goals during this run.
Whether the new boss sticks Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang or Alexandre Lacazette up front remains to be seen but it’s the Gabon international who is in the better form. Eddie Howe’s side are depleted at the back through injury so the Gunners should expect to score a couple of goals as a late Christmas present to their fans.
Leicester City were pulled apart in their 3-1 loss at Manchester City over the weekend and have a quick turnaround before taking on high-flying Liverpool at the King Power Stadium. Liverpool’s Premier League outright odds suggest the title is virtually in the bag.
The Reds are coming back from their trip to Qatar where they won the FIFA Club World Cup over the weekend, so I am a little nervous about Jurgen Klopp making changes. If the Reds boss does alter his front three, it’s usually Sadio Mane who drops out for Divock Origi.
That’s why I’m picking Roberto Firmino as a more sensible choice as fantasy football captain this weekend. The Brazilian striker may be struggling to find goals at Anfield this season but scored the winner against Flamengo over the weekend and is in good form in away fixtures. I am expecting Liverpool to produce a similar performance as to what City did to Leicester, and win comfortably…
