Liverpool host Norwich City to kick off the 2019-20 Premier League season at Anfield on Friday night.
This gives fantasy football players until 19:00 GMT to submit their teams for the season.
We’ve been keeping an eye on all the transfers and fitness of the Premier League players in the build up to the new season before giving you the best choice of captains for the opening weekend. Here are the three best options to start the new campaign:
Freescoring Liverpool host newly-promoted Norwich City on Friday night. Last season’s Champions League winners are widely expected to pick up three points and to pick up three points comfortably.
Jurgen Klopp hasn’t signed any new players this summer that are going to be pushing for a start. Adrian is their new backup goalkeeper whilst the only other arrivals have been two teenagers with an eye for the future.
Divock Origi may be pushing Roberto Firmino for game time this season but no one is going to be pushing Mohamed Salah for his place down the right wing. The Egyptian is great at putting goals past the lower teams in the division. What’s more, Norwich boss Daniel Farke has confirmed that the visitors won’t be parking the bus tomorrow night.
Norwich had a weak defence in the Championship as it was so you can expect Liverpool to start the new season in style with a convincing win.
Raheem Sterling started as Manchester City’s striker in scoring in last weekend’s Community Shield. The England international was one of the highest point scorers in fantasy football last season and can be expected to do similar this season.
City will have a fully fit Kevin De Bruyne to start the season so expect the front three to have even more chances this season, if that’s imaginable. Leroy Sane needs surgery, so Sterling’s place is under no threat from the German. It’s on the other wing that both Bernardo Silva and Riyad Mahrez compete for a place in Pep Guardiola’s starting lineup.
Manchester City start the season at 12:30 on Saturday. This kickoff has been known to produce some low scoring games and surprises so it could require a gritty performance from the visitors to the London Stadium. But you can expect Raheem Sterling to see lots of chances.
Liverpool’s attackers are a good option on the opening weekend given the opposition. Sadio Mane would have been my first choice but for being on international duty in helping Senegal win the African Cup of Nations earlier this summer.
Mane missed last weekend’s Community Shield as a result but Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that last season’s co-Golden Boot winner is available this weekend.
That’s good news but given that Divock Origi can expect more playing time this season and with the UEFA Super Cup midweek, I am not convinced Sadio Mane will feature. So make sure to select a good vice captain.
