We continue our preview for the 2019/20 Premier League fantasy football and today we’re looking at the best midfielders for your team.
This is the position to invest most of your budget into as players get one more point that strikers for scoring goals, they generally register more assists than any other position and also get a bonus point for a clean sheet.
Here are five midfielders for you to consider for your fantasy football team this season:
Sadio Mane (11.5)
The Liverpool forward was one of the three co-winners of the Premier League Golden Boot last season and was a constant threat down the left in Jurgen Klopp’s attacking side. Sadio Mane is a whole 1.0 cheaper than teammate Mohamed Salah which is why I think she’s the better option if you have to choose between either Reds forward.
Klopp has also been quiet during the transfer window with less than two days to go so Mane, Salah and Roberto Firmino are only really threatened by Divock Origi for a place in the starting lineup this season. The Belgian did end last season well but it’s difficult to see him starting many games without injury. Liverpool start the season with Norwich City, Southampton and Arsenal, so expect them to score a lot of goals to start the new season.
Raheem Sterling (12.0)
Raheem Sterling was the overall top points scorer in the 2018/10 fantasy football. The midfielder is cheaper than Mohamed Salah (12.5) and is the same price as his injury prone teammate Sergio Aguero. Every team must have Sterling, particularly in the opening weekend when Manchester City face West Ham United at the London Stadium where they have scored goal after goal in their previous visits.
With Leroy Sane being ruled out for the majority of the season, Sterling should start virtually every game down the left wing. Bernardo Silva and Riyad Mahrez have been used down the right by Pep Guardiola so the England star’s position is under no threat.
Anthony Martial (7.5)
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer plays an attacking style of football at Manchester United and this will benefit the likes of Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford this season. The French forward is predominately played down the left wing but don’t be surprised if he gets the odd start or finish to a game up front. What’s more, he’s cheaper than striker Rashford (8.5) and Paul Pogba (8.5). With Alexis Sanchez and Romelu Lukaku’s future at Old Trafford coming into question, Martial could greatly benefit from this.
United start the season with tricky games against Chelsea and Wolverhampton Wanderers, but that’s followed by Crystal Palace and Southampton where they can be expected to net a number of goals.
Mason Mount (6.0)
Frank Lampard is expected to blood a number of youngsters at Chelsea this season following their transfer ban. One player who could greatly benefit from that is Mason Mount. The young Englishman was a star in Lampard’s Derby County side that reached the EFL Championship playoff final last season.
The 20-year-old can be expected to displace Jorginho in the starting lineup this season to partner Ross Barkley or Mateo Kovacic in Lampard’s 4-3-3 formation. Should he be a regular started then he’s great value at this price. He loves to get forward and take shots at goal, as well as creating a number of chances per game. However, the Blues do start the season with Manchester United and Leicester City which won’t be easy for the new manager.
James Maddison (7.0)
Leicester City have landed Ayoze Perez to help Jamie Vardy find the back of the net for Brendan Rodgers’ side this season. Aside from that, they’re really looking towards James Maddison to contribute double figures this season. The former Coventry City and Norwich City star showed what an exciting and talented attacking midfielder he is in his debut Premier League campaign last term.
Maddison takes free kicks, likes to shoot from long range and creates chances for his team. With the Foxes looking to push for a place in the top six this season they will need 10+ goals from their number 10.
