Wolves can close in on Premier League football vs Derby County

Wolverhampton Wanderers are five points from securing automatic promotion back to the Premier League and could even confirm that status on Wednesday evening when they host Derby County.

In the unlikely event that Fulham lose at home to Reading on Tuesday evening, victory for Wolves against the Rams would seal promotion to the Premier League with four games to play.

Even if their Premier League status is confirmed midweek, Nuno’s side can achieve it in a West Midlands derby against Birmingham City this Sunday.  The Blues themselves sit three points above the relegation ahead of their trip to Bristol City on Tuesday.

Looking forward to Wednesday’s game at Molineux, Wolves are clear 20/33 favourites at bookmaker netbet.co.uk, off the back of their dramatic 1-0 win at Cardiff City on Friday night, as correctly predicted by Premiership Tips.

Ruben Neves was the match winner last time out and is one of three players nominated for Championship Player of the Season.  The Portuguese international has been instrumental in their midfield this season whilst their attack is certainly capable of breaking down Derby’s defence.

Prior to a fortunate 1-0 win at Preston North End on bank holiday Monday and then a 3-0 win over relegation threatened Bolton Wanderers on Saturday, Derby County had only won one of their previous nine Championship matches.

Gary Rowett’s side are somewhat of a surprise to be in the playoff contention, though we do not expect them to finish in the top six with fixtures against Cardiff City and Middlesbrough still to come after facing the league leaders.

Derby have a couple of injuries in their first team whilst they haven’t shown much threat in the final third in recent weeks, at least prior to last weekend.  Tom Lawrence has been the star in recent weeks for them as Matej Vydra’s early season goalscoring form has somewhat dried up.

We’re expecting a comfortable win for Wolves who we are certain will be playing Premier League football next season.
