Manchester United Ready To Sell Mkhitaryan To Create Space For Antoine Griezman

If reports in France are to be believed, Henrikh Mkhitaryan could be on his way out of Manchester United this summer and will be replaced with current Atletico Madrid star, Antoine Griezmann. Last summer Griezmann was strongly linked with a move to Manchester United but ended up staying with Atleti. It is now widely believed that it is only a matter of when and not if he will be leaving the Spanish capital club.

Only recently Griezmann himself claimed there was a real chance of signing for Manchester United:

‘In June, I extended my contract. I’m linked to the club until 2022,’ Griezmann wrote in a new biography. ‘Although, I might be missing out on titles, I have everything here to be happy but that does not mean to say I won’t go one day.

‘I haven’t made that decision. It all depends on various factors. ‘I have nothing against England except for the weather. Manchester United is a possibility.’

French media outlet L’Equipe (as reported by the Metro) reckon Jose Mourinho has told United directors to sign the 26-year-old for him. Mkhitaryan has struggled for form lately, despite starting the season in good form. The Armenian registered five assists in the club’s opening five games of the season but has been very poor in the last month and a half, which led to him being dropped for Manchester United’s last Premier League game.

I am a big fan of Mkhitaryan, but unfortunately he is under the wrong manager. Jose Mourinho is no doubt a world class manager, no disrespect to him, but the truth is that he doesn’t appreciate players such as Mkhitaryan and Anthony Martial. The former Borussia Dortmund player should have signed for Arsenal and not United.

I don’t mean to insult United fans but Mkhitaryan’s style of play doesn’t suit the style Mourinho prefers to play, hence the signing was always going to be a flop right from the start.

A transfer between two rivals is almost impossible, but Mkhitaryan at Arsenal or Tottenham could bring the best out of the Armenian once again. Those who watched him when he was with Dortmund know he is a quality player in an attack-minded side like either of the North London rivals.
