€20m Bid To Be Accepted As Wenger Sanctions Transfer Of World Cup Winner

Arsenal star Mesut Ozil will not be playing for Manchester United next season. Neither will the 2014 World Cup winner be playing for Arsenal, as he has reportedly agreed a deal with Barcelona ahead of the January window. The German star was recently linked with a move to Manchester United, with Jose Mourinho said to be keen to reunite with the player he managed while they were together at Real Madrid.

According to Catalunya Radio (via the Metro), a pro-Barca media house, the La Liga giants have held talks with Ozil, and are said to have agreed a deal worth €20 million (£17.7m) with the Gunners. The report goes on to say Mesut Ozil will pen a three-and-half-year contract at Camp Nou. Arsenal are said to be ready to accept Barcelona’s €20 million bid for the player due to fears of losing him on a free transfer at the end of the season, or Ozil moving to one of their rivals.

Barcelona were said to have reached an agreement with Antoine Griezmann, who according to reports, is seen as a backup option should the Catalunyan club fail in their attempt to sign Philippe Coutinho from Liverpool. But with this news it could well mean Barcelona have admitted defeat in their chase for Griezmann, who from many sources, is on his way to Manchester United.

If this news is true, it will be good for Arsenal, who will not want to lose Mesut Ozil on a free transfer or to one of their Premier League rivals. Obviously Arsenal would prefer to keep Ozil, but unfortunately the player seemingly doesn’t want to stay. It would appear to be for the best that they sell him in January and bring in a replacement, rather than lose him for nothing in the summer.

Another club who would benefit from Mesut Ozil going to Barcelona is Liverpool. If Ernesto Valverde’s side sign Mesut Ozil then there is a good chance they won’t need Coutinho, especially as other reports claim that they have signed Leon Goretzka too.
