“They’ll Pay For My Transfer” – £13m Star Talks About Potential Chelsea Move

Just a year after signing his older brother Eden, on 15 July 2013 Chelsea confirmed they had reached an agreement to sign Thorgan Hazard from Zulte Waregem. As part of the agreement, Thorgan was to remain with Zulte Waregem until the end of the 2013/2014 football season.

As part of the loan agreement, Chelsea reportedly asked Zulte Waregem to make Thorgan Hazard their captain – a move the fans of the club who adore Davy De Fauw, who was the captain before the band was given to the Chelsea loanee, never took lightly. A protest from the fans forced Waregem to immediately hand the captain’s armband back to Davy De Fauw.

For the 2014/2015 season, Hazarrd was then loaned to German Bundesliga side Borussia Mönchengladbach, who ended up signing him in a deal believed to be €8 million (£5.9 million). However, Chelsea reportedly put a buy-back clause in the player’s contract, which means they could buy him back at any time they so wish for a fixed amount.  English media outlet the Daily Mail reckon this fee is £13 million, though according to the report, it may have expired by now.

The player himself has however confirmed he is not certain if such a clause exists but that Chelsea could well pay his transfer fee if they so wish. And the Belgium international has given an indication that he could fancy a move back to Stamford Bridge should the Premier League champions be ready to re-sign himL

“To be honest, even I don’t know if there is one. My father deals with that now. Sometimes, I hear there is one. Here, I’m told there isn’t. Frankly, I don’t know.

“It’s not that I don’t care, but I don’t think about it. I’m happy here. If Chelsea want to buy me back one day, I think they’ll do it, that’s not an issue. Actually, if there is or isn’t one, it’s the same, really. If Chelsea want me, they’ll pay for my transfer and they’ll take me back. It’s just a detail.”

It is unclear if Antonio Conte will move for Thorgan Hazard, but it could well be a possibility should Willian leave, as has been rumoured. Chelsea would then need another attacking midfielder – could that player be Thorgan Hazard?

The fact that Chelsea have also switched from a 3-4-3 formation to 3-5-2 in recent weeks means they could do with the signing of another midfielder, which could well be Thorgan Hazard.
