With Real Madrid already 10 points behind Barcelona in the league, it is safe to assume Zinedine Zidane’s side are out of the running for the La Liga title. Both clubs will drop further points over the course of the season but I just cannot see Barcelona letting Real Madrid catch them from this position.
One of Real Madrid’s major problems this season has been scoring goals. Cristiano Ronaldo has only managed one goal so far this season, while Marco Asensio has been their top scorer so far – and he has only scored four times. In a bid to solve their goal scoring problem, Real Madrid are said to be eyeing a move for Arsenal’s contract rebel, Alexis Sanchez. This is according to a report in Soy Madridista – a pro-Madrid outlet.
Sanchez’s contract is up next summer and unless he agrees to sign a new deal in the coming weeks, Arsenal may decide to sell him this January, rather than waiting until next summer when he would be free to walk away for nothing. Manchester City, Chelsea and Manchester United have all been strongly linked with his signing in recent weeks. It is City who appear to be the keenest English club seeking the Chilean’s signature.
But with Real Madrid said to be interested, Arsenal may prefer to let him go to the Santiago Bernabeu for a cut price fee, rather than losing him to a direct rival. This is probably Real Madrid’s thinking as Los Blancos are said to be only ready to pay €20 million (£18m) for the former Barcelona star. It is a ridiculously cheap amount for Sanchez’s talent but unfortunately Arsenal may have to accept it in a desperate bid not to lose him on a free transfer at the end of the season.
Should Real Madrid successfully sign Alexis Sanchez they will have no need to continue in their chase for Eden Hazard, which will be a big relief for Chelsea.
