Liverpool Injury Update – Mane, Henderson & Clyne Could Miss Southampton Clash

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp will be aware his side cannot continue to drop valuable points if they want to finish in the top four this season.

With Manchester City 12 points ahead of Liverpool in first position, there is little to no hope of the Reds winning the Premier League title.

Jurgen Klopp’s side are currently 5th on the table just ahead of Arsenal on goal difference. Chelsea who have 22 points are three points ahead and occupy the last Champions League qualifying position.

Unfortunately for the Merseyside club, they will have to do without some of their key players for the next few weeks.

Sadio Mane who has been in and out of the team due to one injury or another and suspension is unlikely to feature this weekend when the Reds face his former club, Southampton.

The Senegal international only just returned to action for Liverpool but seems to have suffered another hamstring injury whilst on international duty.

It is a recurrence of the injury that has blighted Sane and means that Liverpool now have to manage the issue or risk aggravating it further, as Jurgen Klopp confirmed“Obviously it is a concern that the hamstring injury is again on the agenda and it will be critical for us to monitor and manage that in the coming days.

“At this stage we haven’t seen Sadio yet to properly assess the extent, but what is clear is that we will have to stay on top of this for the rest of the week and make sure we are careful in how we look after him.”

As well as Mane, Klopp will be without Nathaniel Clyne when Southampton visit Anfield this weekend. The former Southampton star will reportedly be missing for three months after undergoing a surgery on a back problem.

Adam Lallana is in line to make his return to action in a closed door friendly at Liverpool’s training ground today but as he is yet to play for the Reds this season, it is doubtful that Klopp would risk playing him against Southampton or even in the Champions League in midweek.

Jordan Henderson could also be missing from action this weekend after he pulled out of the England vs Germany friendly match as a result of the same thigh injury which forced him out of Liverpool’s last Premier League fixture against West Ham.
