Better Than Aguero & Morata? Man United Ready To Sign UCL Winner For £23.9m/Year

When UEFA came up with the Financial Fair Play (FFP) law, I personally thought it would be the messiah for our beautiful sport that money was threatening to ruin. Unfortunately UEFA couldn’t do much with FFP, and although the law is still very much around, clubs have found a way around it and it is not as effective as we all initially thought it would be.

The small clubs are still very scared of the FFP law, but the big guns like Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester City, Manchester United, Barcelona and Real Madrid have gone about doing their businesses without minding FFP. Last summer was further proof that FFP has weight only on paper. One would have thought PSG could have been sanctioned with the sort of money they spent last summer but nothing has happened and this has led to serious inflation in the market.

The inflation is not only on transfer fees but also on wages been paid out to players. This is why no one will be surprised with the news that Manchester United are trying to sign 21-year-old Real Madrid star Marco Asensio, offering the Spanish attacker as much as £460,000-a-week, which translates to about £23.9 million-a-year. This report, if true, means Asensio would become the Premier League’s highest paid player and one of the most paid in the world.

Yes, you read that right, Asensio will be paid more than Sergio Aguero, Alvaro Morata, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Paul Pogba, Eden Hazard and all of the other Premier League stars if the reports are to be believed. The 21-year-old is no doubt a very good player, one which every Premier League club wish was in their team, but he is certainly not worth £460,000-a-week, and Manchester United would be foolish to pay that much to him if they end up signing him.

United do have the money and they have shown in recent years that they are not scared to spend money. However, do they really need him? They already have Romelu Lukaku who has done considerably well this season, Marcus Rashford, who, despite having to play mostly from the flank, has been one of United’s best players, and Anthony Martial is also available to Jose Mourinho.  Not forgetting Zlatan Ibrahimovic!
