Week 2 Premier League Predictions

With week 2 Premier League fixtures approaching this weekend it is difficult to say just what will happen following a mixed set of results in the first set of matches. There weren’t exactly any major upsets or shocks and neither were there any huge blowouts. This all seems rather typical of the start of the season with everyone still trying to get fit and settle in.

One of the biggest takeaways for myself is that Hull City may not be as terrible as everyone, myself included, initially predicted. This doesn’t mean that they are the next Leicester City following their win over the Foxes, but they might not be the next Derby County either. Considering all of the furor surrounding the team it will still be difficult for them to escape relegation, but if they can be one of the few teams to start strong, they will put themselves in an excellent position.

In the first week of matches there were just two clean sheets kept, one for West Brom and one from Swansea. There were three 1-1 draws and only match featured a team with a win by two goals. This always seems to be more typical of the start of the season when teams are still trying to work out the kinks and get match fit. I’m expecting similar results in week 2 matches this weekend.

Week 2 Predictions:

15:00/20:00 Manchester United 3 v 1 Southampton  2 – 0
Saturday, August 20
7:30/12:30 Stoke 0 v 2 Man City  1 – 4
10:00/15:00 Burnley 1 v 3 Liverpool  2-0

10:00/15:00 Tottenham 2 v 0 Crystal Palace  1 – 0
10:00/15:00 Watford 1 v 2 Chelsea  1 – 2
10:00/15:00 West Brom 0 v 0 Everton  1-2

Sunday, August 14
8:30/1:30 Sunderland 1 v 2 Middlesbrough
11:00/16:00 West Ham 2 V 1 Bournemouth

If week 1 is anything to go by, then this weekend’s fixtures should be interesting if nothing else. There were plenty of rather dull matches, but this is something to be expected at the start of the season. I am expecting there to be slightly more goals, but not by much.

Head back on Friday for the weekly fantasy Premier League tips.
