For Gameweek 17 in the Fantasy Premier League I want to focus my tips on the picks for the weekend’s matches to help out your FPL team. I will bring you five players to look at picking up this week based on their current form, season stats, and match-up as well.
Last week’s Fantasy Premier League team of the week included: Tom Heaton, Eliaquim Mangala, Joleon Lescott, Andre Wisdom, Eden Hazard, Juan Mata, Santi Cazorla, Christian Eriksen, Olivier Giroud, Steven Naismith, and Robin van Persie. Burnley’s clean sheet win against Southampton made Tom Heaton the top scorer for Gameweek 16.
David De Gea – GK – 5.6M: In picking David De Gea I am not following the recent upsurge in praise for the young goalkeeper. Don’t get me wrong I’m a huge fan of his, but I am recommending him due to his recent form and Manchester United’s upcoming fixtures. There are risks in picking him due to the shaky defense in front of him, but this is also a good reason to pick him up because he could get more points for saves. Last weekend’s 3-0 win over Liverpool gave De Gea 8 fantasy points from the clean sheet. This gameweek United takes on Aston Villa in what should be another win and a clean sheet. Villa are a quick team so they should be able to get some shots which means more points for the goalkeeper, provided he makes the saves.
Gael Clichy – DEF – £5.6M: Not only is the Manchester City defender in a good run of form, but he is very good value. He has now played 90 minutes in their last 7 matches and picked up 4 clean sheets in this time. The past two gameweeks he has scored 8 points each thanks to clean sheets. City have a very favorable set of matches coming up against Crystal Palace (H), West Brom (A), Burnley (H), and Sunderland (H). Of those teams Crystal Palace is the one to have scored the most goals this season with just 19.
Eden Hazard – MID – £10.6M: The Belgium attacking midfielder has been in excellent form for several weeks now and it’s hard to look past him and pick anyone else. Chelsea will be playing Stoke City this weekend and there should be goals in this one considering the 21 that the Potters have allowed so far. Hazard hs been a contributing factor in a majority of Chelsea’s goals this season with 6 scored and 3 assists. There is some risk in picking Hazard since he also played in Chelsea’s midweek Capital One Cup match and could be seeing signs of fatigue.
Christian Eriksen – MID – £8.1M: Tottenham’s “number 10” has become the first name on the team sheet this season. Spurs have struggled at home this year, but facing off against Burnley should give them some confidence. Like Hazard, Eriksen has been involved in many of Tottenham’s goals having amassed 6 goals and 2 assists. In a match against Burnley there is also the potential for extra points for a clean sheet.
Robin van Persie – FOR – £12.6M: Van Persie is one player who has seen very little change in his price all season despite having some long stretches of poor play. In the past four weeks he has scored 4 out of his 7 goals and gained 10, 2, 13, and 11 fantasy points. He is definitely trending upward and Manchester United have a favorable set of matches coming up. This weekend they take on Aston Villa which is followed by Newcastle United, Tottenham, then Stoke.
These are my top 5 picks for gameweek 17 in the Fantasy Premier League. It is a good spread of talent throughout your team and should boost your scores for this week and the coming weeks as well considering how each player has some good chances coming up.
