World Cup Predictions: Group E Round 2 Preview

World Cup 2014 Predictions

Group E is currently topped by France with Switzerland just behind them, both teams having won their opening matches. They now get the chance to take on one another for first in the group. Meanwhile, Honduras and Ecuador get a chance to possibly stake their claim on second. Read on for my match preview and prediction for each match.

Switzerland v France – Friday, June 20 @ 3:00 pm: Live on ESPN and Univision

Switzerland were mostly dominant in their opening match against Ecuador, but still needed a last minute goal to grab the win. This was a match in which they had to come back from a goal down to get the result.

Meanwhile, France put together a good display and defeated a feisty Honduras by a score of 3-0. In the end, they were the better team, but were lucky to come away without an injuries or suspensions. Paul Pogba could easily have seen red, but should also learn from it and be available on Friday.

My prediction is a France win, but it will not be as easy as Honduras. Switzerland has some good players and they will push the French to play their best. The Swiss could certainly manage a result in this one, even a win.

Honduras v Ecuador – Friday, June 20 @ 6 pm: Live on ESPN and Univision

This match is going to be a hotly contested one. Ecuador had 17 tackles and 15 fouls in their loss to Switzerland while Honduras had 14 tackles and 14 fouls in their loss to France. Both teams had under 40% possession in their respective matches, although Ecuador was able to do more with theirs, including scoring a goal.

Honduras is a fierce team and, while they only gave up 14 fouls, there were plenty of calls that simply weren’t made. They had three yellow cards in their match, including two for Wilson Palacios who gave up the penalty that lead to France taking the lead.

Ecuador is a quick team that will not be afraid of Honduras and will use their speed and better players to overrun Honduras.

My prediction is an Ecuador win. While it might not be a comfortable one, it is something that they absolutely need if they want to have a chance to progress.
