Sheffield United v Nottingham Forest Fifth Round FA Cup Preview and Prediction

2014 FA Cup Predictions

Sheffield United face off against Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup Fifth Round on Sunday. It is a match that could be an interesting one considering where the two teams are in their respective leagues.

Sheffield United

Sheffield United come into Sunday’s fixture sitting in the relegation zone of League One in 22nd place having a record of 7-8-13. They have advanced to the fifth round after getting past two Premier League sides.

They began their campaign by beating Colchester 3-2 on the road followed by a 2-0 away win over Cambridge United. In the third round they again won on the road, this time against the Premier League’s Aston Villa by a score of 2-1. The fourth round required a replay after they drew 1-1 at home to Fulham. In the replayed match at Fulham they advanced with a 1-0 win in extra time.

Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest are currently in a terrific run of form of 16 matches unbeaten. In fact they have just five losses all season with four coming in the Championship and one in the Capital One Cup. Their most recent victory came against Huddersfield in an emphatic 3-0 away win.

Nottingham Forest is currently on a run seeking promotion and will most likely have to get there through the playoffs. At the moment they sit in fifth place in the table with 54 points and a 14-12-4 record. They have also scored 50 goals while allowing 30.

They have advanced to the fifth round of the FA Cup by also defeating a Premier League opponent. In the third round they faced a weakened West Ham United and comfortably won at home 5-0. The fourth round saw them draw 0-0 at home to Preston North End before advancing by winning the replay 2-0 at Preston.

My pick is a draw for the first match with Nottingham Forest advancing in the replay. Sheffield United has been playing well at home lately and have been unbeaten in their last seven at home, including three wins. Nottingham Forest’s away record has also been quite good with a nine match unbeaten run including four wins and five clean sheets.
