Now that Michael Laudrup has been sacked as Swans manager there are even more question marks over a team that is struggling in 12th place with 24 points, but only two above the drop zone. A loss this weekend could drop them even further.
Following their 2-0 away loss to West Ham United over the weekend, Swansea has now won just one match in their last 10. Even at home they have a record that includes more losses than at 3-4-5. They are going into the South Wales Derby at a very difficult time in their season and many will hope that Garry Monk will be able to motivate them to play better than their recent form.
Despite bringing in Ole Gunnar Solksjaer, Cardiff has continued to struggle. Their 2-1 home win over Norwich City was much needed and was their first win in their last eight EPL games.
In away matches this season Cardiff has just one win, 1-2 over Fulham back in September. They have failed to score in 7 out of their 12 away matches and have also lost their last five on the road in the Premier League while also giving up at least two goals in all five.
I’m going with a pick of a Cardiff City win. I believe it is somewhat bold and risky but this will be the first time for Cardiff to really get a good week of training in with Solksjaer in charge and this will help, along with the fact that they won their previous meeting with Swansea.
In their last six meetings Cardiff does hold the edge with 3 wins, one draw and two Swansea City wins. Cardiff has won their last two meetings with a 1-0 home win and a 1-0 away win.
A win for Swansea would not only see Cardiff firmly mired at the bottom of the table but would also be a much needed, and massive, boost for their own hopes of staying out of the Championship.
Betting Odds (Ladbrokes):
Swansea City win: 1.85; Draw: 3.60; Cardiff win: 4.20
Form: Swansea (D, L, L, L, W, L) Cardiff (D, L, L, L, L, W)
Prediction: Swansea City 1 – 2 Cardiff City
