Aston Villa come into this weekend following a pattern of draw, win, loss, draw, win, loss with their most recent loss coming away to Everton. They have also given up at least two goals in their last four Premier League matches, while also scoring at least one goal in each of their last six matches in the Premier League.
They could have Gabriel Agbonlahor, Chris Herd and Ron Vlaar available, but all are most likely questionable for the weekend. They still long term injuries to Libor Kozak, Charles N’Zogbia and Jores Okore.
West Ham United
At this point West Ham are still weighing legal action against the FA for Andy Carroll’s red card which will rule him out for three matches starting this Saturday. With Andy Carroll playing West Ham have been able to go with their preferred tactics, and without him they have struggled to score. He was key in scoring both of their goals in the 2-0 home win over Swansea last weekend.
West Ham have played well in their recent away fixtures having won 2-0 over Cardiff and drawing 0-0 at Chelsea. However, their growing list of unavailable players means that they have continued to struggle this season, and have especially struggled to find a goal scorer. At this time Carlton Cole leads their scoring with five goals, but even he has struggled to get a regular place in the team.
West Ham’s other unavailable players include Joe Cole, Mohamed Diame, Joey O’Brien, and Ricardo Vaz Te.
My pick is a low scoring draw. While Villa has given up goals lately West Ham has struggled to score goals when Carroll isn’t playing. While Aston Villa is probably the most likely to get a win in this one, they have just three wins in their 12 home matches this season and a draw would go with their current pattern of results.
In their previous six meetings Aston Villa has three wins with two draws and one West Ham win. When playing at home against West Ham, Aston Villa is undefeated in their last six meetings with four wins and two draws.
Betting Odds (Ladbrokes):
Aston Villa win: 1.95;Draw: 3.40; West Ham win: 3.80
Form: Aston Villa (D, W, L, D, W, L) West Ham (D, L, W, L, D, W)
