Despite having major problems in scoring goals this season Crystal Palace has been able to pick up results and, for the time being, pull clear of the bottom three. They are currently in 16th place with 20 points and have scored the fewest goals in the league with just 14. They are also coming into Tuesday’s match having lost in the FA Cup 2-1 at Wigan Athletic.
They have averaged just 0.6 goals per game overall and 0.8 at home with an average of 11.9 shots per game which is fourth fewest. Where they have been shining, especially recently, is in making themselves a tough team that is making themselves harder and harder to beat.
They lead the league in tackles per game with 22.5 and are second in interceptions per game with 16.2. Considering their position in the table, they have also put in a respectable 13.1 shots conceded per game, good enough for 11th best in the league.
They have struggled in completing passes with an average pass completion rate of just 71.7% which is the worst in the Premier League which goes along with having the least amount of possession with an average of 39.4%.
While Hull City may be in 11th place they are just three points above Crystal Palace with 23 this season. The problem for Hull is that they are travelling to face Crystal Palace and are not a team that travel very well. This season Hull City has scored just seven away goals and allowed a whopping 20 in 22 matches. This includes not having a single clean sheet in this time.
Their road record has seen them win just once and draw only two matches and they have been shut out six times in the Premier League. They are coming in to this match after a much needed confidence boost in their 2-0 FA Cup win away to Southend.
My pick for this one is a low scoring draw. Neither team is very free scoring and neither team has the greatest defense which doesn’t say much for this game being a very good one.
I would give Crystal Palace the edge in this one since they are the home team and Hull are currently on a three match losing streak in the Premier League.
Betting Odds (Ladbrokes):
Palace win: 2.50; Draw: 3.10; Hull win: 2.90
Form: Crystal Palace (L, W, L, D, L, W) Hull (D, L, W, L, L, L)
Prediction: Crystal Palace 0 – 0 Hull City
