Southend v Hull City FA Cup Preview and Prediction

2014 FA Cup Predictions

Hull City will travel to Southend in hopes of being able to progress out of the Fourth Round of the FA Cup. Read on for my preview and prediction along with betting odds, form and TV schedule.

Southend have fared rather well in the FA Cup having scored at least three goals in the last three FA Cup matches, all of which they have won. The League Two side has defeated Morecambe away 0-3, Chesterfield away 1-3 and Millwall at home 4-1 to advance to the fourth round.

Southend is currently on a fantastic run with just one loss in their last 15 matches in all competitions. They are also unbeaten at home in their last seven matches in all competitions with five wins. They are currently in fourth place in League Two with 45 points, just three off of the top.

Hull City

Hull came through round three with a rather comfortable 2-0 win over Middlesbrough on the road. Since then they have lost both of their Premier League matches against Chelsea at home and at Norwich. What they will not want to do is to continue this trend against Southend.

In their last five matches Hull have been all or nothing. In their three losses in that time they did not score a goal, but in the two wins they scored six and two and kept clean sheets.

Prediction: Southend 2 – 2 Hull City

My pick is a draw, but this is one of those matches that is ripe for an upset. With Hull struggling recently it’s a perfect time for Southend to take advantage, particularly as the home team. I wouldn’t be at all surprised by a Southend win and a small wager on them wouldn’t be a bad idea.

Betting Odds (Ladbrokes):

Southend win: 5.00; Draw: 3.75; Hull win: 1.67

Form: Southend (W, D, W, W, D, W) Hull City (L, W, L, W, L, L)

Prediction: Southend 2 – 2 Hull City

TV: Saturday’s match will be broadcast on FOX Soccer Plus at 9:55 am on US television. No live UK coverage, highlights will be broadcast on ITV.
