Newcastle United Preview

In this week’s preview for Newcastle United v Stoke City read up on my prediction along with analysis for the match in week 17 of the Premier League. Included with each match preview are statistics and betting odds to help with your own predictions.

The week 18 Boxing Day Premier League Predictions have been posted, so go read up on my EPL picks for the week. Be sure to also check out the Premier League TV Schedule and 2013-14 Premier League Table.

This season Newcastle United has quietly compiled 30 points with a 9-3-5 record to push themselves into sixth in the table. With all of the commotion surrounding nearly every other team in the league, they have largely gone overlooked.

At home they have lost only one match, 2-3 to Hull City back at the end of September. While they only have three clean sheets at home, they do have a record of 4-3-1 and have scored 12 goals while allowing 8, which includes five consecutive matches scoring two goals.

Stoke City has also gone about their business quietly and climbed up to tenth with a respectable 21 points. Their season has largely been full of inconsistencies, one week losing 4-0 to Everton on the road then soon followed up by a 3-2 home win over Chelsea. In the weekend’s 2-1 win over Aston Villa they did show some resiliency and grit. During the match Villa had 14 shots with four on target while Stoke blocked six of those. Peter Crouch put in a quality effort with a goal and an assist.

My prediction is a Newcastle United win. They have put together an excellent home run with five home matches in the Premier League without a loss, which compares to Stoke City’s last six away matches without a win.

Betting Odds: Newcastle win: 1.76-1.80; Draw: 3.55-3.75; Stoke win: 4.67-5.37

Form: Newcastle (W, W, L, W, D, W) Stoke (W, L, D, W, D, W)

Prediction: Newcastle 2 – 1 Stoke City
