League Cup Quarter-Finals Previews:

Leicester City v Manchester City: Leicester City will certainly be hoping that Manchester City decide to rest players for Tuesday’s match. This is probably quite likely since Pellegrini and City will certainly be focusing this season on Champions League and Premier League success. This does seem like a good match for Joe Hart to return in goal for the Citizens. Leicester come into this match having drawn at home to Burnley on Friday in the Championship and will be facing a Manchester City team that defeated Premier League leaders 6-3 on Saturday. A weakened City side might struggle a bit more against Leicester, but they have more than enough to talent to get a win.

I’m predicting a Manchester City win, but they have struggled away from the Etihad and have not kept a clean sheet in their last four matches; although, they have not allowed a goal in their previous two matches in the League Cup.

Betting Odds: Leicester win: 8.34-9.00; Draw: 4.70-5.32; Man City win: 1.36-1.40

Sunderland v Chelsea: Chelsea travel to Sunderland following several recent difficult matches, including a 4-3 win over Sunderland in the Premier League at the start of December. In their past four matches they have gone 3-0-1 and each match was separated by just a single goal. Sunderland could turn out and put in a great performance, especially following their recent form. In their last six matches in the Premier League they have gone 1-2-3. However, in this time they have kept three clean sheets (against Manchester City, Aston Villa, and West Ham) and have kept matches between Chelsea and Tottenham close, losing by just one goal in each match.

My prediction is for a draw, but I will say that this is largely due to my belief that Mourinho will rest several players and that the Sunderland players will really be up for this match. Sunderland will need to make sure that they hang on defensively and the longer they can hold out the more frustrated they should be able to make Chelsea. Chelsea also have had quite a bit of defensive fragility this season and are always liable to make a mistake.

TV: Sunderland v Chelsea will be shown on beIN SPORT with coverage starting at 2:30 pm.

Betting Odds: Sunderland win: 6.24-7.04; Draw: 4.00-4.45; Chelsea win: 1.52-1.57

Stoke City v Manchester United: Stoke City enter Wednesday’s League Cup confrontation with Manchester United on the back of three consecutive positive results including 0-0 draws against Cardiff and Hull with a 3-2 win over Chelsea sandwiched in between. Their last six matches have them going 2-3-1.

This compares to Manchester United who have gone 3-1-2 in their last six and having won their last two matches in all competitions. Sunday’s 3-0 away win over Aston Villa was a return to the form expected of the reigning Premier League champions. I believe that Moyes will play a rather strong side, but will also make changes from Sunday’s win including bringing in Vidic, Ferdinand, Fellaini, Kagawa, and Hernandez.

My prediction is for a Manchester United win, but one that will be close. Stoke playing at home will have plenty of chances to get a result, but this is one of those matches that United will want to get through and will be too much for the Potters

TV: Stoke v Manchester United will be shown live on beIN SPORT with coverage beginning at 2:30 pm.

Betting Odds: Stoke win: 4.55-5.00; Draw: 3.60-3.80; United win: 1.77-1.83

Tottenham Hotspur v West Ham United: Tottenham’s inconsistent form this season continued on Sunday with a 5-0 defeat to Liverpool. This came on the back of a three match win streak in all competitions. West Ham United have not had much of a good season either and see themselves in a relegation battle. Their 0-0 draw at home to Sunderland is indicative of the kind of season they have had so far.

West Ham did have an earlier win over Tottenham when Sam Allardyce employed a 4-6-0 tactic and eventually wore down the Spurs and forced in three goals. In Wednesday’s match Tottenham will not be caught off guard so easily. They will have plenty of play for and need to prove they can bounce back from the trouncing they took at White Hart Lane on Sunday.

My prediction is for a Tottenham Hotspur win. This is one match that could go either way to be honest. Tottenham did not play well against Liverpool, but at the same time, they were facing a Liverpool squad that is in form at the moment. West Ham United do have a chance in this one, although the lack of a striker continues to be a worry and is the main reason why I have a hard time getting behind them for a result.

Betting Odds: Spurs win: 1.48-1.53; Draw: 4.12-4.46; Hammers win: 6.85-8.37
