Sunday’s Week 11 matches included Manchester United v Arsenal as well as Tottenham taking on Newcastle, Sunderland at Manchester City and Swansea City hosting Stoke City.
The day began with Tottenham slipping up at home against Newcastle after a 13’ goal from Loic Remy. This was a match in which Spurs completely dominated in everything except goals. They had 31 shots with 14 of those on target. They even had 65% possession and an 84% pass success rate, but still could not get past Newcastle United’s outstanding display from Tim Krul.
Sunderland produced the biggest shock of the day by defeating Manchester City at home. Phil Bardsley’s 20′ goal was the difference in the match as City could not even manage an equalizer.
Stoke City took Swansea City into half time with a 2-0 lead. This was followed up by the Swans scoring three in the second half for what they thought would be three huge points. Instead they then gave up an equalizer in the fifth minute of stoppage time from yet another controversial penalty, to end the match 3-3.
In the biggest match of the weekend Manchester United grabbed a 27′ headed goal from Robin van Persie to go into half time up 1-0. United did well to neutralize Arsenal’s attacking threats all match long. They stuck a man marker on Mesut Ozil and closed him down quickly. Wayne Rooney put in a man of the match performance in running all over the pitch playing solid defense and being the catalyst going forward. The 1-0 United win takes them up into fifth place with 20 points while Arsenal stay at the top of the EPL Table with 25 points.
