Manchester United was able to come through Wednesday’s Capital One Cup match with a 1-0 win and put in a rather solid performance. Shinji Kagawa got his second start of the season and did well along with Nani and Javier Hernandez, the scorer of the only goal. In watching this match the differences between their previous match against Liverpool as well as the week 5 defeat to City were stark. United did not allow themselves to get overrun in midfield, yet they did make mistakes at the back that could have cost them but for Liverpool’s lack of quality and some excellent goal keeping from David De Gea.

West Brom has had something of a resurgence in the past few matches first with a draw at home to Fulham then last week’s 3-0 win over Sunderland. They were able to hold Arsenal in their Capital One Cup match but lost on penalties. All in all, some promising signs from the club. With that said, they were coming up against some sub-optimal competition. Fulham has not looked good and are in relegation form while Sunderland are bottom of the league. Their Capital One Cup match was against a very young “B squad” Arsenal team.

West Brom, with the Sunderland match aside, are having difficulties scoring and creating chances, especially without the help of Romelu Lukaku this season. They sit in 14th place on five points have scored four and allowed four. They are coming up against a Manchester United side that is trying to find their form and will most likely need to find a way to create better chances and score goals without Robin van Persie.

It looks like RvP will not be fit by match time, but may be available as a sub. I doubt that Moyes will want to risk using him at this point and with Chicharito showing quality on Wednesday, it is more likely that he will get the start.

My prediction is a Manchester United win. I expect Wayne Rooney to again put in a man of the match performance. I’m also expecting Shinji Kagawa to get his first Premier League start of the season. West Brom may be able to frustrate United, but will struggle to get goals against a team that, up until last week, had a very solid defensive record.
