Premier League Preview for Everton v Chelsea along with Predictions for every result in the EPL. Follow up each match with results and video highlights posted later in the week.
Everton’s changing of the guard in bringing in Roberto Martinez to replace David Moyes hasn’t been exactly the revolution that some might have expected. Their three draws to start the season have seen them score only two goals, and those coming in their 2-2 draw to Norwich.
If Martinez can bring himself to drop Nikica Jelavic I think it would help them tremendously. He does now have Romelu Lukaku along with Arouna Kone and even Gerard Deulofeu, all of which should be better choices than the misfiring Jelavic.
Chelsea don’t have the greatest of in-form strikers at the moment and it doesn’t look like Mourinho even knows which of them to start considering his rotation. Instead he has looked to using a multitude of attacking midfielders to control matches.
The interesting thing has been that none of these formations has included Juan Mata. I find this very odd, but wouldn’t be surprised to see him start on Saturday. Chelsea have not had too much difficulty starting despite the lack of strikers as they have scored four goals and allowed only one.
Defense has been a strength for both teams and this could be one of the more boring matches for the weekend. My prediction is for a low scoring draw with plenty of pragmatic defending, ball retention and possession on both sides. If either team is going to win this one, I would certainly go with Chelsea. If Chelsea is able to score early, or first, then they will be very difficult to break down and lose the lead.
