Aston Villa began the season in high flying fashion with their 3-1 win over Arsenal, but since then have been brought back down with back to back losses to Chelsea and Liverpool. Fortunately for them there were some positives to take away from these matches. They played well in both matches and have managed to score 4 goals while allowing 4 to keep their goal difference at 0.

Newcastle United, on the other hand, haven’t been as strong as many thought they would be. They beat Fulham in week 3, but Fulham aren’t exactly a convincing side this year. Newcastle has scored only once, and that coming in their 1-0 win over Fulham, while prior to that they were stout enough to hold off West Ham United at home.

Coming in to week 4 Newcastle could have Obertan, Williamson, Tiote and Gutierrez all available, which would be a boost for them. Aston Villa look like they will still be without Charles N’Zogbia. This match should be a close one and both teams will be looking to limit the amount of goals they give up. Aston Villa has strengthened their defense a bit more this year, but it is still a weakness.

I’d expect Villa to be on the front foot for most of the match and creating many chances, particularly for Benteke and Weimann. Newcastle will most likely look to absorb the Villa attack and counter with their primary threat coming from players like Hatem Ben Arfa, Loic Remy and the return of Yohan Cabaye. With his return Papiss Cisse could be receiving better service as well.

My prediction is for an Aston Villa win, but I expect this to be a close and hard fought match. With Cabaye back in the side Newcastle could get themselves at least another goal, but I do feel as though Aston Villa’s attack will be too much for them and they will be overwhelmed in the attacking third.

At this point the odds put Aston Villa at 2.18-2.25 with a draw at 3.31-3.44 and a Newcastle win at 3.33-3.55

Form: Aston Villa (W, L, L)     Newcastle United (L, D, W)

Prediction: Aston Villa 2 – 1 Newcastle United
