Premier League Preview for Liverpool v Manchester United along with Predictions for every result in the EPL. Follow up each match with results and video highlights posted later in the week.
Liverpool have shown that they can win without Luis Suarez in the team. They have put on dominating displays in their two 1-0 wins to start the 2013-14 EPL season. They controlled play with a large amount of possession, but the fact that they have only 2 goals with all of that dominance should be somewhat worrying for fans.
Manchester United has put out two different displays this Premier League season thus far. Against Swansea they didn’t play all that well, but managed to counter with four goals and get a win. Against Chelsea they did well to control their possession and hold off Chelsea’s attacks, but weren’t convincing in attack. Wayne Rooney’s return to the starting lineup was excellent, but they never really challenged Chelsea offensively.
In the northwest derby between Liverpool v Manchester United my prediction is a close, hard fought win for United. I think that Liverpool will find it difficult to break down what has been a solid spine for Man United despite whatever possession they have. I’d expect Liverpool to hold onto the ball with Manchester United using a counterattack strategy to look for a goal on the break. It should be a great match to watch, hopefully better than the Manchester United v Chelsea match from Monday.
Form: Liverpool (W, W) Manchester United (W, D)
Prediction: Liverpool 1 – 2 Manchester United
