Monday night’s match at Old Trafford is certainly the biggest match of the season so far and it is going to be a good one. Jose Mourinho has already begun his mind games, which are so beloved by the English press, but no longer has Sir Alex Ferguson around to battle back with. Instead, David Moyes gets to pit his wits and tactics against the Chelsea boss.

Going into the match Chelsea sit at the top of the Premier League Table following their controversial midweek 2-1 win over Aston Villa. Chelsea looked good at times, but also vulnerable against the lively Villans. Their wingers, coupled with Benteke, did give the Chelsea back line some difficulties. Chelsea’s winning goal scorer really shouldn’t have been on the pitch at the time of the goal and Villa should have had a penalty. All of this is to say that Chelsea were not nearly as dominant in Wednesday’s match as they were against Hull City.

Manchester United would do well to learn from both their first match and from watching the Chelsea v Aston Villa highlights. They will need to utilize their wide midfielders and full backs to create space for the central players. Chelsea have a strong midfield and will need to use this strength to their advantage. They would be wise to have Romelu Lukaku available to pester United’s back line, although it might work out to their benefit to bring him on as a late sub when United’s center backs are starting to wear out.

Perhaps the biggest question is what will happen with Wayne Rooney? I had initially thought there was a chance he could play, but at this point, it seems nearly impossible for him to come out against Chelsea, the team that has been courting him. With that said, Wayne Rooney is a professional and, while he may have been sulking, he played well in his match. I would expect to see him on the bench for Monday’s match.

My prediction is a Manchester United win. As most people know, anything can happen in this match, especially with Mourinho involved. The way that Chelsea has started out this season, there are some weak points that can be exploited, particularly in their back line. Manchester United are still weak in midfield, especially in a defensive midfielder and a playmaker. This is one match that you will not want to miss. Fans in the U.S. can watch the match on NBC Sports Network and NBC Sports Live Extra starting at 2:45 pm ET.
