Southampton did well to strengthen this summer and it should show for them this season. While their 1-0 win over West Brom didn’t come until a last minute penalty, they have a lot of talent in the squad and strengthened further by bringing in another striker, Pablo Osvaldo.

Sunderland have made the most changes this summer by dropping 12 players and bringing in 10 to replace them. This didn’t work out quite as expected in their first home match, a 1-0 loss to Fulham, but there were some positives to take away from it. They were also heading for a draw until they were undone by a penalty.

Both Southampton and Sunderland spent parts of last season in the relegation battle and are hoping to avoid that this season. Saturday’s match will come down to who can convert their possession into goals. My prediction is a Southampton win. They have a strong midfield with some quality strikers. With all that has been going on at Sunderland I think they will struggle to keep it together. They will now be without Phil Bardsley to go along with Wes Brown, Lee Cattermole and Stephen Fletcher.

Form: Southampton (W)     Sunderland (L)

Prediction: Southampton 2 – 1 Sunderland
