These two London clubs began their seasons in opposite, unexpected ways. While Fulham managed to win away, Arsenal were beaten at home, and ended up with several players unavailable for this weekend. At the time of writing, they also have a Champions League qualifier coming up against Fenerbahce.

My preseason prediction for Fulham this year was for them to be relegated, or at the very least to be in the battle. Since then, they have gone out and made some good buys, including bringing in Scott Parker to strengthen their midfield. This is going to be key for them with players like Dimitar Berbatov, Bryan Ruiz, and Adel Taraabt playing up front and most likely staying up there without helping to track back.

Arsenal come into Saturday’s match with quite the list of players injured or unavailable. Several of them could return by Saturday, but the fact that they came out of the weekend’s match injured, means that they will not be fully fit. These include Aaron Ramsey, Tomas Rosicky, Bacary Sagna, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Kieran Gibbs, Mikel Arteta, Nacho Monreal, Thomas Vermaelen, Ryo Miyaichi, Abou Diaby, and Laurent Koscielny. That is quite the list!

Arsenal and their fans should prepare themselves for further disappointment this year. Fulham fans should do the same. My prediction for this match is Arsenal’s first win of the season, but I don’t think it will be easy. There is always the chance that Fulham can pull off a shock win or manage a draw. At this early stage of the season a lot can happen. Depending on which Arsenal players are able to play, it could become much more difficult for them.

Form: Fulham (W)     Arsenal (L)

Prediction: Fulham 0 – 1 Arsenal
