Chelsea v Aston Villa: 2:45pm ET/19:45 GMT

Chelsea began their season with an emphatic and emotional win over Hull City on Jose Mourinho’s return to the Premier League. Lampard may have missed a penalty, but he more than made up for it with his outstanding free kick goal. Chelsea really should have scored more goals, but the two was enough to come away with all three points quite comfortably.

Aston Villa began their season with quite a shock of a win. It wasn’t so much a shock that they played well, but more a shock that they were able to go to the Emirates and win. They looked lively and dangerous throughout the entire match.

In Wednesday’s match, with Chelsea needing to play early due to their upcoming Super Cup match with Bayern Munich, there should be plenty of good football.

Chelsea showed their strength in week one and this will be a chance for them to stamp their mark and take the lead at the top of the Premier League Table. Aston Villa have a chance to show what they are made of as well. Travelling to Stamford Bridge is never an easy task, but Lambert’s men have shown that they don’t fear playing away matches in London.

It will be interesting to see how Mourinho sets up his men knowing that they have a massive match against Manchester United coming up on Monday. It will give him a chance to use some other players including possible starts for Lukaku, van Ginkel, Schurrle. I would also expect to see Mata, Essien, and even Moses involved. Chelsea is a bit light at the back, since they no longer have Marin and Luiz may not be available with an injury. Azpilicueta and Bertrand may find themselves called in.

For Aston Villa I would expect very little to change in their lineup. Benteke will give the Chelsea back line problems and the key for their success will be in midfield. If they want to get anything out of this match they will need to find ways through a very strong Chelsea midfield. It is possible, and Weimann and Agbonlahor on the wings will be a key for them.

My prediction for Wednesday’s Premier League match is a Chelsea win. It will be close and Aston Villa will give them a match, but I believe Chelsea will be too strong for them in the end.

Form: Chelsea (W)     Aston Villa (W)

Prediction: Chelsea 1 – 0 Aston Villa
