This match on Saturday is one with some massive implications for the bottom of the Premier League Table. Stoke may be 10 points above Queens Park Rangers, but they are only three points above 18th placed Wigan. Not a good place to be with only five games to play. Tony Pulis is under a lot of pressure as well and there are some big questions to ask going into the match.
Harry Redknapp had a bit of a meltdown following their most recent loss to Everton last Saturday. He basically called out his players and deemed them failures. I have a hard time seeing how that will actually help them. QPR are certainly doomed to head back into the Championship and I’m sure the players know that.
Stoke are looking like a possible candidate for the third team to get dropped to the Championship, but if they have a lifeline it is in this match. Stoke’s last 10 matches see them with a record of 1-2-7, with their last win coming back on February 10 against West Ham. The problem for Stoke has been twofold; their typical sit back and defend mentality is not working and they aren’t scoring any goals either. In the past six matches they have allowed nine goals and only scored two.
The way these two teams are playing, this game is shaping up to be extremely boring with the only excitement coming from the implications in the relegation battle.
My prediction is for a Queens Park Rangers win. Stoke are not scoring goals and they allowing far too many. They typically sit back even more when they are traveling which would be a mistake against a QPR team that does have proven goalscorers. Stoke could pull off a draw, but I have a very hard time seeing them getting anything more than a point. Whatever the result it could be quite a shakeup in the bottom of the Premier League Table.
QPR (W, W, L, L, D, L) 1 – 0 Stoke (L, L, D, L, L, L)
