Chelsea 3 – 1 Steaua Bucuresti (3-2 aggregate): Chelsea put on a decent performance to go through to the quarterfinals thanks to a crucial third goal scored by Fernando Torres. Many felt he was finally turning a corner, until he decided to take Chelsea’s penalty and missed. He did show good movement off the ball throughout the match though.
Inter Milan 4 – 1 Tottenham Hotspur (4-4 aggregate): Well, Tottenham sure did make it difficult for themselves. Adebayor’s goal was the difference in sending them through thanks to their single away goal. They certainly did nothing to dispel any thoughts that they are not anything more than a one man team. With Bale missing they certainly looked lost.
Newcastle United 1 – 0 Anzhi Makhachkala (1 – 0 aggregate): Newcastle perhaps should have made it a better match since Anzhi was without their striker Willian and had to play the better part of 35 minutes with only 10 men. The Magpies have Papiss Demba Cisse to thank for a last minute winner to put them through.
Rubin Kazan 2 – 0 Levante (2-0 aggregate):
Zenit St. Petersburg 1 – 0 FC Basel (1 – 2 aggregate):
Bordeaux 2 – 3 Benfica (2 – 4 aggregate):
Fenerbachce 1 – 1 Viktoria Plzen (2 – 1 aggregate):
Lazio 3 – 1 VfB Stuttgart (5 – 1 aggregate):
