Europa League Scores from Thursday’s Fixtures [Video]

UEFA Europa League

Check out all of the results for the Europa League on Thursday, February 21, 2013, including Premier League teams Liverpool, Newcastle United, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur.

Newcastle United, Chelsea, and Tottenham Hotspur all advanced to the next knockout round while Liverpool’s win wasn’t enough to get them through.

Lyon 1 – 1 Tottenham: Lyon took an early 1-0 lead which was going to be enough to see them through to the next round on aggregate due to their away goal. Spurs Moussa Dembele was able to come through with a 90th minute cracker to see them go through to meet up with Inter Milan.

Metalist Kharkiv 0 – 1 Newcastle United: The first leg in Newcastle ended with a 0-0 draw meaning that everything was there to play for today. Shola Ameobi scored the only goal with a 64th minute penalty, but it was enough to get the Toon through to the next round where they face Anzhi Makhachkala.

Chelsea 1 – 1 Sparta Prague: Chelsea also had to rely on a last minute goal to see themselves through. Chelsea’s substitute, Eden Hazard, managed to score in the second minute of stoppage time to avoid going into extra time. The 1-1 draw was enough to give Chelsea a 2-1 aggregate win. They will now face Steaua Bucuresti in the third round.

Liverpool 3 – 1 Zenit St. Petersburg: Liverpool were able to win at home, but this was not enough to get them through in their last remaining chance for Cup glory. Luis Suarez scored two free kicks and Joe Allen added Liverpool’s third goal. Unfortunately a Jaime Carragher mistake in defense allowed Hulk to score and gave the Russians the edge with an away goal. The away goal made all the difference, along with Liverpool failing to score in the first leg, as the aggregate score ended 3-3. Zenit will now face Basel in the next round.
