2 penalty decisions involving controversy were enough for an Arsenal win. The first was given in the 26th minute when Cazorla dove to the pitch and rolled around a few times winning the penalty instead of the yellow card he deserved. Replays clearly showed that Stephen Reid made no contact whatsoever. Mikel Arteta stepped up to put away the penalty shot and gave Arsenal a first half lead. Arsenal were the dominant side throughout the first half and had several great chances including one that Jack Wilshire inexplicably put wide of an open goal.
The second penalty came after Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was taken down in the box. The penalty was a fair, clear decision, but the controversy was in the play leading up to the penalty in which Oxlade-Chamberlain pushed over the West Brom defender before driving into the box.
Perhaps the turning point in the match was the initial penalty given thanks to some cheating. West Brom will feel very hard done by in this match as both goals came under controversial circumstances. This also makes it three losses in a row.
For Arsenal, the three points are massive and move them up the table into sixth place.
