All the scores and video highlights from Tuesday, November 20 Champions League matches. Week 5 of the UEFA Champions League brought matches from the Premier League clubs Chelsea and Manchester United. Group matches were played for Groups E, F, G, and H.
I spent the afternoon watching two matches; Galatasaray v Manchester United and Juventus v Chelsea. I always enjoy watching some European soccer, but the thing that I really hate is the whistling. I get it, you don’t like your opponent having the ball, but really? Do you have to kill my hearing with that horrible incessant whistling? It drives me nuts.
Anyway, enough ranting from me for now. Chelsea’s loss means that they will be hoping for a Shakhtar Donetsk win or draw in 2 weeks while also defeating FC Nordsjaelland. Video highlights will posted (or linked) when available.
Group E: Chelsea went out in today’s match looking to limit the damage starting the match with Fernando Torres on the bench. They seemed to be playing a negative defensive style while looking for a goal on the counter attack. They did come close a few times, but they did not play well enough to get anything out of this and Torres’ second half addition did nothing to help. Shaktar’s win means that they are through to the next round.
Juventus 3 – 0 Chelsea
FC Nordsjaelland 2 – 5 Shakhtar Donetsk VIDEO Highlights
Group F: Lille’s 2 – 0 win over Borisov means that Valencia and Bayern Munich will be battling for top spot in the group as both are now guaranteed to be going through to the next round.
BATE Borisov 0 – 2 Lille VIDEO Highlights
Valencia 1 – 1 Bayern Munich VIDEO Highlights
Group G: Barcelona’s simple 3 – 0 win over Spartak Moscow puts Barcelona safely through to the next round as group winners. Benfica and Celtic will have to wait till the last week to see who can take second in the group.
Spartak Moscow 0 – 3 Barcelona VIDEO Highlights
Benfica 2 – 1 Celtic VIDEO Highlights
Group H: Manchester United is already through to the next round after winning all four of their previous matches. Against Galatasaray today they fielded a very young side including a European debut for Nick Powell. The referee seemed timid throughout the match especially in giving anything against the home side. Galatasaray’s win coupled with Cluj’s win means that it will all come down to the last week of play to see which of these two will go through in this group.
CFR Cluj-Napoca 3 – 1 Braga VIDEO Highlights
Galatasaray 1 – 0 Manchester United
