Premier League Highlights: Liverpool v. Manchester City

Premier League Highlights: Sunday, August 26, 2012

Where: Anfield, Liverpool

Score: Liverpool 2 Manchester City 2

Prediction: Liverpool 1 Manchester City 2

Title holders Manchester City received their first real test to their bid for a repeat championship.

Liverpool was able to take a 2-1 lead into the 80th minute when Martin Skrtel sent a horrible back pass to Pepe Reina that was intercepted by Carlos Tevez. Tevez made it look easy going around Reina and slotting it into the back of the net.

The big question is why Skrtel was trying to pass the ball so far with a poacher like Tevez on the field.

Liverpool looked much better today than they did last week. City had an edge on the possession (51% – 49%) but Liverpool did well to play attacking football and get 2 nice goals.
Liverpool’s first goal came on a great header by Skrtel from a corner. He did very well to work himself free from several City defenders and put the ball in.

Yaya Toure had only just pulled City level with a fine strike on 63’ when Liverpool’s second goal came from a masterpiece of a free kick from Luis Suarez.

In what will surely be in the running for goal of the week he was able to bend it up and around the wall landing just barely inside the near post. A superb free kick.

The match was a good one to watch and provided plenty of excitement as well as some fine talking points. Does this mean that Liverpool is ready to challenge the top four once again? Is City vulnerable?
