David Beckham Retires from Football

David Beckham has announced that he is retiring from professional football. He retires as one of the biggest stars in soccer with a long and illustrious career full of winners medals.

Beckham spent his 21 years playing for Manchester United, Real Madrid, LA Galaxy, AC Milan, and Paris Saint-Germain. At 38 years old he has decided to hang up his football boots. He was never the greatest player, but has always been an excellent player and an icon wherever he went.

Beckham won 22 trophies in his time playing football with the most coming during his 394 games at Manchester United. In his time in the Premier League he scored 85 goals and won 6 EPL titles, 2 FA Cups, 4 Community Shields, 1 FA Youth Cup, 1 Champions League, and 1 Intercontinental Cup. He was also a part of the historic Treble winning team in 1998-99.

His trophy cabinet includes 1 La Liga title, 1 Spanish Supercopa trophy, 2 MLS Cups, and 1 French Ligue One title as well as numerous individual awards.

During his career in both professional and international football, he has made a name for himself with both his flashy lifestyle and his ability on the pitch. His bending, curving, curling free kicks and passing being the two talents that made him so well known.

His goal against Greece to send England to the World Cup is probably the highlight of his international career with England:

Benfica 1 – 2 Chelsea: Chelsea became the 2013 Europa League Champions after beating Benfica 2-1 in the final in Amsterdam. Fernando Torres scored for Chelsea in the second half, but this was quickly pegged back after Azpilicueta handled the ball in the box. Cardoza put away the penalty to make it 1-1.

EPL-Picks-and-Predictions

Todd’s Premier League Predictions for the final week of the EPL, week 38, games this weekend include some great match-ups at the top and bottom of the Premier League Table. Along with my picks are previews for all of the matches.

It has finally come; the last day of the Premier League. It is always a weekend that makes me a bit sad, yet also very excited by all the football in one day. This is a weekend that is full of interesting matches that will decide several places in the EPL table.

I’m including the two midweek matches in here mostly because last week was a very full week. So they are technically week 37 matches, but will be included in this week’s predictions since they fall during this week.

Wigan are in a position that they need to win both games in order to have a chance of staying up. A loss in either match and they are down to the Championship.

Chelsea FC

Premier League Preview for Chelsea v Everton along with Predictions for the matches on week 38 of the EPL. Follow up each match with results and video highlights posted later in the week. You can also check out the weekly EPL TV Schedule.

Both teams are mostly safe in where they will finish at the end of this season. Everton cannot get any higher or lower than sixth place while Chelsea have secured Champions League football with a fourth place finish at the very least, and that only if they lose.

Everton have bid their Goodison Park farewell to David Moyes as he moves on to Manchester United. They managed to beat West Ham last week in that final home match for Moyes. In their last ten matches they are 6-3-1, which is quite good, but the draws this season (the most in the EPL) are what have done them in and kept them out of the race for a top four position.

They will be playing Europa League football next season, but will need to strengthen, especially for the bench, if they want to do well in multiple competitions.

Chelsea will come into Sunday’s match as the 2013 Europa League Champions after beating Benfica 2-1 with a last minute header. It is always possible that the additional game and the emotion of playing in a cup final could finally catch up with them, but they have continued to grind out results in this second half of the season, despite playing in so many competitions and so many games this year.

Chelsea do still need a win to ensure that they finish in third place and get an automatic Champions League place, rather than having to play qualifiers. My prediction is for a final win for David Moyes at Everton. I’m sure he will put out a strong enough side and make sure they get a win. Chelsea could be more emotionally drained come Sunday following their Europa League win. It should be a good match and either club has a good chance to get a win or cancel each other out for a draw..

Chelsea (L, W, W, D, W, W, D, W)   1 – 2   Everton (W, D, W, D, L, W, D, W)

Premier League Predictions

Premier League Preview for Wigan Athletic v Aston Villa along with Predictions for the matches on week 38 of the EPL. Follow up each match with results and video highlights posted later in the week. You can also check out the weekly EPL TV Schedule.

It has finally happened. Wigan Athletic has been relegated. What most people thought was going to be a massive final match and a last day full of drama has fizzled out.

This was supposed to be a match to decide who would be relegated. Instead, it is just another game, after Wigan’s 1-4 loss to Arsenal. Wigan has become the first team to win the FA Cup and be relegated in the same season. Not exactly a distinction anyone wants, but it was looking inevitable that they would be dropping, so at least they go back to the Championship with a trophy in hand.

Aston Villa will be without their goal scoring machine, Christian Benteke, thanks to his sending off in their loss to Chelsea. They also have Matthew Lowton out to injury along with Karim El Ahmadi and Ciaran Clarke, although all three could make it for Sunday’s match.

I’m predicting a draw for this match. The problem with a prediction for Wigan v Aston Villa is that neither team has anything to play for and this means that there is no real drive or motivator for either team. Either team could come out as winners depending on which one decides they are up for it.

Previously they were both able to get up for games by knowing that they needed wins to stay up and not get relegated. Now we are at the point that Wigan are already going down and Aston Villa know they are safe. I can’t imagine either manager will want their teams to give up, but you can’t always control what the players do after they cross that white line.

West Bromwich Albion Preview

Premier League Preview for West Brom v Manchester United along with Predictions for the matches on week 38 of the EPL. Follow up each match with results and video highlights posted later in the week. You can also check out the weekly EPL TV Schedule.

I think everyone knows the narrative for this match with it being Sir Alex Ferguson’s 1500th game in charge at Manchester United, and it being his very last match as manager. I’m sure there will be more touching memories and farewells said on Sunday.

As for the match itself, West Brom has looked rather poor in the last month and a half. In their last ten matches they are 2-2-6, having last won four matches ago against Southampton. They do have Marc-Antoine Fortune out following his sending off against Southampton.

Manchester United have already been crowned Premier League Champions and are only playing for the pride of keeping the points gap between them and their noisy neighbors. I wouldn’t be surprised if Sir Alex puts out a weakened, mostly reserve team on Sunday, but I also wouldn’t be surprised if he put out a very strong side either.

He has always promoted winning at the club, but the youth in the system has been such a huge factor at United that giving a run out for the young players would be fitting for his last match.

I have predicted a narrow Manchester United win and I am sticking with this regardless of which team is put out. They have quality and depth at United and any team they put out is capable of winning. West Brom certainly have a chance against United and Steve Clarke has been a shrewd tactician, I’m just not sure that the players will be up for it. It is the last match of the season and West Brom are already assured a top ten finish.

Premier League Predictions

Premier League Preview for West Ham United v Reading along with Predictions for the matches on week 38 of the EPL. Follow up each match with results and video highlights posted later in the week. You can also check out the weekly EPL TV Schedule.

I’ll start out by saying that I thought about predicting a draw, but changed my mind. It’s possible that there will be goals and quite possible that there will be none.

Reading are going down, but do need a point to ensure that they will not end at the very bottom. They fought hard against Manchester City, but just didn’t have the quality of players to hold them off. They have at least attempted to play positive and attacking football.

This cannot be said of West Ham who have often opted for route one football by just hoofing the ball downfield and aiming for Andy Carroll’s head. They have played the Sam Allardyce way by playing hard and never letting up.

My prediction is a West Ham United win. It most likely will not be pretty, but it should end with West Ham getting a result at the very least. Reading might be able to get a point, but I would be surprised if they did so.

Spurs-Match Preview

Premier League Preview for Tottenham Hotspur v Sunderland along with Predictions for the matches on week 38 of the EPL. Follow up each match with results and video highlights posted later in the week. You can also check out the weekly EPL TV Schedule.

What a year it has been for both of these teams, though not for the same reason at all. While Sunderland have largely underperformed, Tottenham have surprised many by remaining in the running for Champions League football at this time of the season.

Tottenham has shown remarkable consistency if you consider their inability to maintain form at the end of the season for the past several years. At the same time, they have had some slip-ups that have led them to be in a position of needing to win and hoping that Arsenal do not.

Sunderland are now safe from relegation, thanks to Arsenal beating Wigan on Tuesday. They have dropped off some from their first couple of matches under Di Canio. He came in and did enough to get this team up out of the relegation zone, but will really have his work cut out for him this summer and next season.

My prediction is for a Tottenham win. Spurs really need this win and Sunderland no longer do. This doesn’t mean that Di Canio won’t be pushing them, but they do not have the same spirit and determination as other teams.

I have predicted a Sunderland goal, but wouldn’t be surprised if it’s a clean sheet for Lloris in the Tottenham goal.

Premier League Predictions

Premier League Preview for Swansea City v Fulham along with Predictions for the matches on week 38 of the EPL. Follow up each match with results and video highlights posted later in the week. You can also check out the weekly EPL TV Schedule.

Yet another match in which neither team has anything to play for. Swansea didn’t play terribly against Manchester United [Video Highlights] over the weekend, but it wasn’t like they set the world alight either.

Fulham have looked poor for almost the entire second half of the season. You have to go back eight matches to April 1st for their last win (3-2 against QPR). There is always a chance that they get it together for the final match of the season and get some goals, but they haven’t shown any cutting edge ability for ages.

Fulham are now safe from relegation following Wigan’s loss to Arsenal. Prior to the match it was a possibility that Fulham could be relegated based on other results, however this was reliant on Wigan winning their last two matches.

I’m predicting a Swansea win. They have played well all season and they will be playing at home for their final match in the 2012-13 season. They are 6-8-4 at home while Fulham have gone 3-7-8 on the road.

A prediction for this EPL match seems like it should always point to Swansea winning. It would be a great way for them to end their first season in the Premier League. It would also be fitting for Michu to get on the score sheet for at least one of their goals, considering his excellent form.

Premier League Predictions

Premier League Preview for Southampton v Stoke along with Predictions for the matches on week 38 of the EPL. Follow up each match with results and video highlights posted later in the week. You can also check out the weekly EPL TV Schedule.

Both teams will be feeling extremely relieved after Tuesday’s Arsenal v Wigan match ended with Wigan as the final team relegated to the Championship. Prior to the match both Southampton and Stoke were in for possible relegation if Wigan won both of their last two matches.

Southampton’s form has dropped off over the last month with their last win coming on April 6th against Reading. Not a good run for them with three draws and two losses in their last five matches.

Stoke’s form hasn’t been much better. At least they do have two wins in their last five against QPR and Norwich, not exactly convincing either. Stoke will be without Charlie Adam after his sending off on Sunday, but otherwise has a full strength squad.

I can’t imagine this will be an exciting match to watch at all. Nothing at stake except for perhaps a slightly higher place in the table and more money for the club. I’m predicting a Southampton win, though that comes mostly from them playing at home. It might be somewhat more realistic to predict a draw considering both teams recent form. Both teams are safe and it might be hard for a few of them to get themselves up for this EPL match.

Southampton (W, W, W, D, D, L, L, D)   2 – 1   Stoke (D, L, L, L, W, W, D, L)

Premier-League-Previews

Premier League Preview for Newcastle v Arsenal along with Predictions for the matches on week 38 of the EPL. Follow up each match with results and video highlights posted later in the week. You can also check out the weekly EPL TV Schedule.

Arsenal now have their sights set on finishing in fourth. After Arsenal’s 4-1 win over Wigan on Tuesday they now need only to beat Newcastle on Sunday to secure Champions League football for yet another season.

Last weekend’s win for Newcastle already saw them safe in the Premier League for another season meaning that they do not need to dread relegation. Newcastle’s injury woes this season have been many and have not let up, meaning they are without nearly a full squad of players on their injury list. The players that they do have healthy haven’t really cut it this season.

Arsenal will have Olivier Giroud return, but may not even need him with how they played on Tuesday. They have shown the ability to become a more consistent team in the past couple of months. What really hurt them is the lack of consistency to start the season.

My prediction is an Arsenal win. Newcastle hasn’t shown anything lately to prove that they have a chance of winning. They may have won over the weekend, but that was against a poor, already relegated QPR team. It seems more likely that the only real prediction for this match is how many Arsenal win by.

Newcastle (L, L, W, L, D, L, D, W)   0 – 2   Arsenal (W, W, W, D, W, D, W, W)

Premier League Predictions

Premier League Preview for Manchester City v Norwich City along with Predictions for the matches on week 38 of the EPL. Follow up each match with results and video highlights posted later in the week. You can also check out the weekly EPL TV Schedule.

Yet another match that means nothing. A result for Norwich could mean more money for them for finishing higher in the table, but otherwise it is a Premier League match between two teams whose position in the table is set.

Manchester City’s 2-0 win against Reading on Tuesday ensures that they finish second in the standings. I would expect them to play a mostly weakened reserve team side and give a lot of their up and coming youngsters a run out.

Norwich hasn’t been outstanding this season, but they have done enough to get through. Their lack of attacking threats have been their biggest weakness. They have shown a surprising amount of solidity at the back and this is what has really carried them through the season.

I’m predicting a Manchester City win. It probably won’t be exactly comfortable and might get difficult, but they have the quality to get past Norwich. This could also come down to who the two teams put out there for the match.

Man City (W, W, W, L, W, D, W, W)   2 – 0   Norwich City (D, L, D, L, W, L, L, W)

Premier League Video Highlights

On Tuesday there were two matches played for week 37 in the EPL. Video highlights from both matches are included below for Arsenal v Wigan Athletic and Reading v Manchester City.

Both matches are make-up games for the four clubs who missed out on the weekend action due to Manchester City playing Wigan Athletic in the 2013 FA Cup Final [Video Highlights].

Arsenal 4 – 1 Wigan: I’ll admit that I got this one all wrong. Arsenal’s offense was just way too much for Wigan who had nothing to respond with. They played hard and continued to attack, but their defense is what has let them down all season and led to their relegation. With this loss Wigan have become the third team relegated and taken a lot of the drama out of Sunday’s drama on the final day of the season.

The win for Arsenal puts them in position to take the final Champions League place. They only need to win on Sunday against Newcastle to secure fourth place.

Reading 0 – 2 Manchester City: Manchester City showed slightly more ability today than they did on Sunday. They did just enough to get past Reading and secure second place. Credit should be given to Reading for not giving up and still looking for goals right to the end.

Liverpool Football Club

Premier League Preview for Liverpool v QPR along with Predictions for the matches on week 38 of the EPL. Follow up each match with results and video highlights posted later in the week. You can also check out the weekly EPL TV Schedule.

Both teams in this match have their positions fixed in the table. Liverpool will finish seventh and QPR will finish last in 20th place. A difference is that QPR manager, Harry Redknapp, has spoken repeatedly to the press about the poor quality and poor attitudes in his squad. On the other side, Liverpool manager, Brendan Rodgers, is going to continue pushing his squad and looking for a good performance.

Liverpool have looked at this season as one of transition; A new manager with a new philosophy and bringing through new, young, players. They have been ambitious and I foresee this continuing in Sunday’s match.

I believe they will play their typical style by maintaining possession and playing passes to create chances. They will still be without Steven Gerrard and Luis Suarez as well as Daniel Agger, Joe Allen and Martin Kelly. Both Martin Skrtel and Raheem Sterling are doubts, but could make appearances.

For Queens Park Rangers they do have both Julio Cesar and Christopher Samba sidelined, but either one could be ready by Sunday. I do have a hard time seeing Rangers getting anything out of this match. They have not shown any ability to get themselves up for a game in a very long time. When they needed to get results they were poor and now that there’s nothing on the line, they haven’t looked any better. Their only hope is that some of these “mercenaries” will decide they need to play well to encourage interest from another team.

My prediction is a Liverpool win. This is a match that could go any number of ways, including a complete rout by Liverpool. Certainly QPR has a chance, especially with the way Liverpool has played at times by dominating matches, but never able to get the goals they need.

Liverpool (L, W, D, D, D, W, D, W)   2 – 1   QPR (L, L, D, L, L, D, L, L)

Reading-Match-Preview

Premier League Preview for Reading v Manchester City along with Predictions for the matches on week 38 of the EPL. Follow up each match with results and video highlights posted later in the week. You can also check out the weekly EPL TV Schedule.

Tuesday’s second match is the absolute opposite of Arsenal v Wigan. There is nothing to play for in this one at all. Perhaps a bit of pride or bragging rights, if you are Reading.

Manchester City are coming in after losing the 2013 FA Cup Final to Wigan, thanks to some late match heroics from Ben Watson’s headed goal. The match will also be one day after announcing the sacking of Roberto Mancini, with Brian Kidd set to take charge of their last two matches. Not good times for City right now.

The team did not look like they were up for it on Saturday. There was no spirit out there and they didn’t look like a team willing to fight for a win. Reading were a team that had spirit and seemed to lose it when they needed it most.

In their last match they were able to get that spirit back and really took it to Fulham in their 4-2 win. Now that there is no pressure on them, they look like a team free and ready to play.

My prediction is a draw. It could really go either way with either team having a chance at getting a win. It will be interesting to see how Manchester City reacts to the loss of both their only chance at silverware this year and the manager that brought silverware back to the club after 38 years.

Reading (L, L, L, D, L, D, W)   1 – 1   Man City (W, W, W, L, W, D, W)

Premier League Predictions

Premier League Preview for Arsenal v Wigan along with Predictions for the matches on week 38 of the EPL. Follow up each match with results and video highlights posted later in the week. You can also check out the weekly EPL TV Schedule.

This is a must win match for both teams at this point, though it’s for two completely different reasons. Arsenal are looking for a win to stay in the running for a Champions League place. Wigan need to win to be able to stay up in the Premier League.

Arsenal come into Tuesday’s match in fifth place on 67 points, just two behind Tottenham. A win would put them in prime position to finish in fourth place needing only the win Tuesday and a win on the weekend. They will be without Olivier Giroud to lead their line, with him out serving his last match ban for his red card. Other than Giroud they have a full strength squad.

Wigan are coming into the match on the back of their 2013 FA Cup win over Manchester City. Ben Watson’s game winning goal will still be with them coming into their final two matches.

Their performance on Saturday was inspired and exciting to watch. They continued to attack and push City until the very end. It is just this sort of mentality they will need to take with them to the Emirates.

Even more than their attacking ability was how they solidified their back line and kept City from scoring. Alcaraz’s return seemed to make a huge difference for them. There is a slim chance that Jean Beausejour could also return on Tuesday which would be a boost for them, if he’s fit enough.

My prediction is for a Wigan win. It is going to be a difficult match for them, probably more so than the FA Cup Final, but they do have it in them. They did go to the Emirates last season and beat Arsenal in a must win match around this time.

Wigan absolutely need to win. Anything other than a win and they are relegated. I want them to win simply to increase the drama of the last day of the season. Not only would it mean that the relegation battle continues, but also because it would mean the battle for fourth would be even closer on the final day.

Arsenal (W, W, W, D, W, D, W)   1 – 2   Wigan (W, D, L, L, D, W, L)

On Sunday, May 12 Manchester United were crowned Premier League champions with their trophy celebrations available here on video. This is United and Sir Alex’s 13th Premier League title and United’s 20th English league title.

With this being Sir Alex’s last match at Old Trafford it is fitting that they celebrate with the trophy today. You can also watch the EPL Video Highlights from the match.

Man United v Swansea EPL Video Highlights

In Sir Alex Ferguson’s last match at Old Trafford Manchester United took on Swansea City in the EPL week 37 on Sunday. Video highlights will be posted as available.

Sir Alex Ferguson has been managing at Old Trafford for 27 years and some say that he is the greatest manager in sports history, because of his achievements. Sunday’s game will be his 1499th in charge at Manchester United.

Manchester United 1 – 1 Swansea City:

United lineup: De Gea, Evra, Ferdinand, Vidic, Jones, Carrick, Scholes, Kagawa, Welbeck, Hernandez, van Persie

Subs: Lindegaard, Buttner, Valencia, Cleverly, Giggs, Evans, Anderson

Swansea lineup: Tremmel, Chico, Williams, Taylor, Tiendalli, de Guzman, Britton, Hernandez, Routledge, Michu

Subs: Monk, Davies, Lamah, Augustien, Shechter, Cornell, Rangel

Perhaps as big as Sir Alex Ferguson’s last match in charge at Old Trafford is that it will also be Paul Scholes last match at Old Trafford after his announcement yesterday that he will be retiring. Wayne Rooney has also been left out of the squad entirely today.

The United fans started the afternoon in full voice after welcoming the United squad onto the pitch with Champions flags waving. Manchester United started smartly with a full force attack at Swansea. Javier Hernandez came close when he put a shot off the bar early on.

After threatening for most of the first half, United finally took the lead through Chicharito in the 39th minute. First half ended with United the dominant side. Not the greatest match in the first half, and many United players looked like they wanted shots to be able to get on the score sheet.

The second half started out with Michu scoring for Swansea in the 49th minute. Not exactly going with the script for the day.

While Paul Scholes got a massive reception on leaving the pitch his last day playing at Old Trafford in the EPL was not a great one for him. United were looking tired and without options while Swansea were pushing them hard.

In the 87th minute Rio Ferdinand came up with a header on a United corner to score his first goal in five years and give United a 2-1 lead. They certainly picked up the tempo in the last five minutes and into stoppage time.

It seems fitting that Manchester United would need to get a late goal for a win on Sir Alex’s last match at Old Trafford. It’s something that United has been known for in his 26 seasons there.

It was a fantastic game to watch and I loved the enthusiasm and attitude shown by the Wigan players. They never gave up and continued to push forward in attack till the very end. It was this attitude that led to Ben Watson’s goal to win the 2013 FA Cup.

2013 FA Cup Final Video and Score

The 2013 FA Cup Final took place on Saturday, May 11 featured Manchester City v Wigan Athletic. Video highlights and result are available for the 2013 FA Cup Final. This includes live score and analysis from the final.

Manchester City v Wigan Athletic

Man City Lineup: 4-2-3-1: Hart, Zabaleta, Kompany, Nastasic, Clichy, Y. Toure, Barry, Nasri, Silva, Tevez, Aguero
Subs: Pantilimon, Lescott, Rodwell, Kolarov, Milner, Dzeko, Garcia

Wigan Lineup: 4-3-3: Joel, Alcaraz, Scharner, Boyce, Espinoza, McArthur, Gomez, Maloney, Kone, McManmana
Subs: Al-Habsi, Watson, Henriquez, Fyvie, Golobart, Caldwell, Di Santo

The first half started out full speed with Wigan having some of the good chances early on, but Manchester City getting the better chances. Joel Robles did well in goal to save what could have been the opening goal from Carlos Tevez in the 28th minute. Callum McManaman got himself into the box one on one with the keeper, but wasn’t able to get a shot off and didn’t have any support which allowed City defenders to get back and the chance was gone.

The first half ended 0-0 with Wigan looking like they might have a chance, however, not scoring in the first half was certainly a worry considering the decent chances that went begging. They looked dangerous and kept City from getting into the game too much. Perhaps the fact that City were the clear favorites made it look like they were worse than they were, but having not scored a goal it gave Wigan hope for the second half.

For the first half Wigan had 8 shots with 0 on target with 48% possession. This compares to Manchester City with 11 shots and four on target with their 52% possession. Passing statistics were quite even with Wigan having 262 passes at an 87.4% passing success rate and 80.2% success in City’s half. Manchester City had 253 passes at 86.6% success rate and 81.1% success in Wigan’s half.

The second half started out much the same way the first half went. Wigan continued with their attacking approach and Manchester City did much the same. In the 57th minute Sergio Aguero thought he had a penalty when he went down in the box, however, the call was made correctly in allowing play to go on. He went down far too easily (perhaps even a dive) but was also never going to get to it before Joel Robles. This was soon followed by the first yellow card of the game in 60th minute after a very cynical foul by Zabaleta.

In the 69th minute Roberto Mancini made, what I believe to be, an odd change by taking off Carlos Tevez and bringing on Jack Rodwell. Instead of chasing goals he put on another holding midfielder to sit back with Gareth Barry just in front of their back four and pushing Toure up further.

In the 75th minute Nastasic picked up a yellow card after taking down McManaman on the edge of the area. The free kick taken by Shaun Maloney was excellent, but went just off the top of the bar. In the 85th minute McManaman was again taken down, this time by Pablo Zabaleta, already on a yellow, who was given his marching orders and sending City down to 10 men.

And then it happened, Wigan scored. A MASSIVE goal in the first minute of stoppage time scored on a header by Ben Watson. The Wigan players and fans went absolutely berserk and rightly so.

Wigan were deserved winners. They were the better team throughout and were constantly attacking while also holding off Manchester City time and time again. Their first ever time in the FA Cup Final and they are the 2013 FA Cup Winners!! Perhaps the biggest giant killing in FA Cup Finals history. It also means that Manchester City, with all their billions of dollars go trophyless and lose to a team that very well might be relegated to the Championship.

My man of the match is Callum McManaman. He was relentless in attack and continued to run at the City defense, even into the 90th minute.

Frank Lampard Scores 203rd goal for Chelsea

Frank Lampard has become Chelsea’s all time leading goal scorer today against Aston Villa scoring his 202nd and 203rd goal and passing Bobby Tambling.

In scoring the two goals in today’s match he was also able to guarantee Champions League football for Chelsea next season. There continues to be speculation about his future, but no matter what he decides to do he will be a Chelsea legend. His two goals today only increased his legendary status.

There were many fans, pundits and neutrals who were worried that he would leave Chelsea without being able to get the goals needed for the record, but he has now put his name in the Chelsea record books as their leading goal scorer.
